พรรคเพื่อไทย For Thais Party

For Thais Party (Thai: พรรคเพื่อไทย, Phak Phuea Thai, PTP) is a Thai political party founded on September 20, 2008, when it was expected that the People's Power Party, itself a successor party to former PM Thaksin Shinawatra's Thai Rak Thai, would be dissolved by the Constitutional Court of Thailand, which occurred on December 2, 2008. The party was founded by former PPP MPs which were not banned from politics and are continuing the policies of its predecessor parties, the TRT and the PPP. By December 3, 2008, 80 former PPP MPs have defected to the For Thais Party.[1] It elected its executive commission on December 7, 2008,[2] one day before a new PM is set to be voted on.[3] The candidates for the party's leader were: Apiwan Wiriyachai, the former Vice President of the House of Representatives), former health minister Chalerm Yubamrung and former industry minister Mingkwan Saengsuwan.[4][5] On December 7 Yongyuth Wichaidit was elected as the party's leader. On the same day MPs convened in a parliamentary session in which five parties in the House of Representatives including the PPP's former coalition partners decided to endorse Abhisit Vejjajiva as the next Prime Minister and a Democrat-led coalition. The For Thais Party campaigned to bring back former PPP-coalition partner members. However, it was too late as Abhisit had secured enough support for the premiership.[7][8] Afterwards the party called for a national unity government in which all parties would be involved, with Snoh Thienthong of the Royalist People's Party as the new premier, however these efforts failed.[9] On December 11 Worrawat Eua-apinyakul, a PTP member, suggested that the party should push for a house dissolution, and therefore depriving the Democrats of a leading role in a government. However, this effort failed as the President of the House of Representatives; Chai Chidchob spoke against the plan. [10] On the same day The Nation Newspaper reported that MPs were offered up to 55 million Baht to defect to the PTP in an attempt to stop Abhisit securing enough votes in order to be elected as the next Prime Minister.[11]

On December 15, 2008, the party elected nominated Pracha Promnok as the party's candidate for Prime Minister in the case of a further general election.

พรรคเพื่อไทย (อักษรย่อ: พท. อังกฤษ: Pheu Thai Party - PT) จดทะเบียนจัดตั้ง เมื่อวันที่ 20 กันยายน พ.ศ. 2550 โดยมี นายบัณจงศักดิ์ วงศ์รัตนวรรณ เป็นหัวหน้าพรรคคนแรก และ นายโอฬาร กิจเลิศไพโรจน์ เป็นเลขาธิการพรรคคนแรก

สำนักงานใหญ่ของพรรค ตั้งอยู่ที่ อาคาร บีบีดี บิลดิง ซอยจินดาถวิล ถนนพระรามที่ 4 แขวงมหาพฤฒาราม เขตบางรัก กรุงเทพมหานคร (ย้ายมาจากอาคารนวสร ถนนพระรามที่ 3 แขวงบางคอแหลม เขตบางคอแหลม กรุงเทพมหานคร) และสำนักงานสาขาพรรคแห่งแรก ตั้งอยู่ที่จังหวัดพิจิตร ซึ่งเป็นสาขาพรรคพลังประชาชนเดิม[1] โดยที่ประชุมคณะกรรมการบริหารพรรคนัดพิเศษ เมื่อวันที่ 21 กันยายน พ.ศ. 2551 มีมติให้ นายสุชาติ ธาดาธำรงเวช เป็นหัวหน้าพรรค นางสาวสุณีย์ เหลืองวิจิตร เป็นเลขาธิการพรรค นายศักดา นพสิทธิ์ เป็นโฆษกพรรค และ นายนิรันดร์ นาเมืองรักษ์ เป็นผู้อำนวยการพรรค[2][3][4]

ต่อมา เมื่อวันที่ 19 พฤศจิกายน ปีเดียวกัน นายสุชาติ ได้ลาออกจากการเป็นหัวหน้าพรรค โดยให้เหตุผลว่า ขณะนี้ บุคคลที่มีประสบการณ์ทางการเมืองจำนวนมาก ได้เข้ามาสมัครเป็นสมาชิกพรรค ตนจึงต้องการเปิดโอกาสให้ผู้ที่เหมาะสม เข้ารับตำแหน่งต่อไป นอกจากนี้ ตนก็ยังเป็นสมาชิกพรรคอยู่ ส่วนจะรับตำแหน่งอื่นภายในพรรคหรือไม่นั้น ขึ้นอยู่กับการตัดสินใจของเพื่อนสมาชิก[5] และหลังจากที่ศาลรัฐธรรมนูญวินิจฉัยให้ยุบพรรคพลังประชาชน เมื่อวันที่ 2 ธันวาคมแล้ว ส.ส.และสมาชิกพรรคเกือบทั้งหมด ได้ย้ายเข้าสังกัดพรรคเพื่อไทย[6]

จากนั้น เมื่อวันที่ 7 ธันวาคม มีการประชุมใหญ่วิสามัญ ครั้งที่ 4/2551 ของพรรคขึ้น ที่อาคารที่ทำการพรรค โดยมีวาระสำคัญคือ การลงมติเลือกหัวหน้าพรรค และคณะกรรมการบริหารพรรคชุดใหม่ โดยในส่วนหัวหน้าพรรค มีการเสนอชื่อนายยงยุทธ วิชัยดิษฐ รักษาการรองหัวหน้าพรรค เพียงรายชื่อเดียว นายยงยุทธจึงได้รับตำแหน่งหัวหน้าพรรคไปอย่างไม่มีคู่แข่ง ส่วนนางสาวยิ่งลักษณ์ ชินวัตร ที่ได้รับการคาดหมายว่าจะขึ้นเป็นหัวหน้าพรรคคนใหม่นั้น ที่ประชุมมีมติให้ดำรงตำแหน่ง กรรมการคัดเลือกผู้สมัครลงรับเลือกตั้งของพรรค[7]
